Looking around, it seems there are two different types of remington rifles for the .308. The regular SPS lines seem to have a 4 round internal magazine while the 5R and PSS versions seem to list 5.

Scoop- can you post a pic or describe which part to dremel off to enlarge the internal mag? Thanks. Did you experience or know of any negative "side effects" of removing the material?

Depends on the caliber. It's 4+1 in most, but some (the 7mm Rem mag for example, IIRC) are 3+1.

Here you go. Very simple mod. I've done it to all the .308's (Various Remmy's - Some Factory & some custom) I've had and have had no problems at all with them. Never have done it with any other calibers so I can't speak for them. Just dremel the tabs off the rear of the follower - Don't mess with the folds that retain the magazine spring (middle & forward part of the follower).

Scoop - thanks for explaining and for the pics! I don't think I have to file the side tabs all the way down since I expanded the internal mag so its now flush against the stock wall. That and removing maybe .2-.3" off the tab should enable me to fit 5 rounds into the internal mag.

Remington factory magazines for .308 based cases hold four rounds.
No one except Remington makes magazines for their detachable-mag systems. They can't be made larger because the latches are on the bottom of the magazine.
BDL guns can be bedded with their bottom metal lowered to allow 5 rounds in the magazine.
