I am new to the Hide and wanted to say hello. I just picked up a Remington 700 5R in .223. I have a decent amount of experience w/.223 loads for a 1:9 twist. Given the new 5R tube I guess I will take a few different things with me to see how they act during the first 100 rd break in. Does anyone else have one? Any data yet on what it likes?
Any feedback is welcome. If I am one of the few testing this new tube I will be sure to give some updates as things progress.

From the Nosler book, 26.5gr W748 with Nosler 50gr Ballistic Tip. Brass and primers tend not to be so iffy with this load.

Best load to date out of my 700VLS .223 that's going on a decade old right about now, and is my current gotomatches 200yd rifle.

Thanks for the directions, I have a lot more to choose from now. The gun is about half way through the break in and I should be building loads in the next few weeks.

Re: Remington 700 5R .223/ Loads?

Update:
The rifle has a round count of 60 now.
Out of 5 different factory loads and a few random hand loads I had lying around, I could not find anything the new 5R .223 would shoot under an inch. I was hoping to find a bullet weight that it "liked" and build from there on the reloading bench. I came up with no direction.

I questioned the rifle???? I had my Smith scope the bore, all check out fine.

So, I loaded some Virgin Lapua brass with 69SMK's with 5 different charges of H335. The Results are on the bottom of the target.......A far cry from the 1"'s I first tried.
It Shoot's.... just a bit picky.

I will be headed back this weekend with a few more hand-loaded-choices. If it goes well I will check the 200 yard groups.

Re: Remington 700 5R .223/ Loads?

Update:
ROUND COUNT now at 95 and the break-in is over.

I ran the 69 SMK's again to verify my last findings.
23.2 gr and 23.5gr of H335 were the top 2.

Shot both at 100 and 200 yrds.
I also went from 3 rd groups to 5 rnd groups
23.5 was the winner.
Shot off Harris bipod and a rear bag.
Still fire forming my first 100 cases.
Hoping to improve groups by bagging it front and rear and using the formed brass.
