Ok guys I just got my Remington 700 .308 5R, From a fellow Hide member ( Malaga2) He is good to go. The rifle was in new condition and had a few modifications done to it.
Williams bottom metal
AZ bolt knob Karistan Cheek piece
Bead blasted and moly coated OD green
I dropped in a Timney trigger set to 2lbs 3oz. from (JasonK)
An IOR 20moa base , from ( Whiteknight )installed after the weekend.
A Zeiss 6.5 X 20x50 Mil- dot scope
And a bipiod.
The first thing that caught my attention on this was the rifling. With a flashlight in the breech and looking down the muzzle I counted the 5 riflings and noticed how polished the tube was as well as the contour of the rifling. Understand my other .308 shooter is a Savage 10-Mcmillan stock and although it shoots good, it is a “copper collector”, so this to me was very encouraging.
At the range I got the scope zeroed at 100 yards as well as ran some ammo across the Crony, Cleaning after every 5 shots . With the barrel so polished it didn’t take much to clean it. After shooting at 100 yards and dealing with the cold weather I set up a target on the 200yd stand. I adjusted the scope, what I thought might be enough to get it on target at 200yds. To my surprise my first shot hit the orange of the bulls, I continued my 5 shot string with just enough time to eject the brass and reload (slow and easy). The target I shot is the one posted and I shot it off a bench, with bipod, and bag in the rear.
I am very happy with my choice of this rifle, it is a shooter out of the box with a few simple mods. Getting rid of the 6 lb trigger was a must, as well as the cheek rest ,it gives you a great cheekweld to the gun.
I highly recommend this rifle for someone who wants a great shooter without getting a smith involved.

Damn nice looking rifle. Tell me about the paint, please. Is that like duracote? Is it baked on?

Same deal here. I found the post after it was claimed by Sunnyside Scott. I received a factory new one last week and now have to wait for my rings and base to show up. Now I have a shiny rifle to Krylon.

Nice snag Sunnyside. Good to hear your happy with it.

Re: Remington 700 5R Milspec range report

She is a shooter. I met with some Hide members this past weekend and shot at 980 yds. The rifle did its job, I need to work on my long range shooting from prone position. First, I have got to get a bipod with a swivel base, the ground was frozen and it was a bitch getting a stable position. Next, I need to lighten up the trigger a little I am thinking of setting it at about a pound and a half, and last I need to look at my scope-base selection, I ran out of elevation, and had to hold at the last mil dot. My load of choice is 45 grains of Varget, pushing SMK 175's. (I had no pressure signs)
All that learning aside, I have no complaints about the rifle and FWIW I never shot a round out of my Savage 10.

This post was in reference to my 700 5r in .308, shooting sub .5 on a regular with m118, leupold mark 4 10x TMR. Simple settup, but a much needed improvement over my 700 ltr.
