remington 700 bolts

I was wanting to get a ptandg but I heard there were hard to make fit properly I was wondering if there was a better option to get a bolt with all the fancy stuff in one order

Hard to make fit properly? When ordering a PTG, measure the ID of your receiver raceway, order a PTG bolt minus the clearance you want. If your coating the bolt and/or inside of receiver, make sure you account for coating thickness as well. I've done this multiple times and if your math is right the fit is perfect....

have a short action magnum face bolt now wanting to change to a standard bolt face what are the best options
I'd contact LongRifles Inc. via PM, or you can give them them a call, or use their website

They do all kinds of good stuff with Remington 700s, including bolt shroud faceting, side mounted bolt releases for the action, and striker pin bushing

I've installed half a dozen 2-piece PTG Rem 700 bolts and never had an issue with their product. Customer service, communication, lead time, and getting the correct parts as ordered, yes, but the bolt bodies and handles were never an issue. They can be a bit sharp but a little time with some files/stones and they've been working for thousands of rounds.

LRI has a good repuatation too. I've used them and they were quick and professional.

if you want a plain jane factory replacement there's always fleabay.

One piece is more expensive and might have to be trimmed to fit your specific action. In theory, it's more relaible since it's a monolithic piece of steel and not 2-pieces stuck together. I've been TIG welding my PTG 2-piece bolts together. I test the handles with a bench vice and a rubber mallet and haven't had one fail yet. Of course, I'm not expecting to "go to war" with my hobby guns so I don't feel that one-piece is a requirement. You may have a different opinion/objective.

Usually, the "upgrade" of an aftermarket bolt is to tighten up tolerances, improve primary extraction cam or timing, or just change the bolt face or pin hole diameter. You can accomplish a lot of that with re-working the factory bolt, but at some point it becomes cost-effective to just get a new bolt.

OEM bolts in stock or I can just rework your existing bolt. Be a great time to add the M16xtr while were at it.

Assuming the cocking cam to bolt lug positioning is machine right on the PTG, you can certainly go that route to. It's been an issue in the past enough for me to comment. I once hung a bunch of these but moved away for that reason and the extractor pocket being a mess.

Happy to help.
