Gunsmithing Remington 700 LTR reciever threads

I just got a new Remington 700 LTR in .308 with the serial # RR prefix. It seems the scope base holes on the receiver seem larger than the standard 6X48. Is it possible Remington began to open up these receiver screws to 8X40?

OEM receivers made in Illion are 6.48 pitch. Some 40x's come with 8-40's, its a mix of old/new. All M700's/40x/M7's from the Rem Custom Shop are 8.40
