Sorry for the newbie post but I ordered an AAC-SD to use with my 762-SDN-6 in December and somehow the dealer received the wrong gun yesterday. I never looked at it in the store and when I got it home it sure did look short.....Well what I actually received was a 16.5" Tactical. Would someone take the time to explain the differences to me between the 2 so I can make up my mind what to do?

Thanks in advance!!!!!

One barrel is 3.5" shorter than the other!

Since you are gonna run a can, it is almost perfect.
Personally, I prefer a bit more barrel on my .308, but lot's of folks run the shorties.
I'm running a 20" with my can, makes a nice package, but that 16.5 will make a really good hunting rig.

You scored a unicorn there. Some guys have been scouring the internet looking for the factory 16.5 308 version. If you decide you don't want it I predict it will last about 1/2 hour in the classifieds before someone snags it from you. Congrats, thats a good gun.

Actually me and 2 buddies ordered them at the same time and all received 16.5". I just figured it out today when I was trying to decide on scopes....

So the longer barrel would just give it a longer effective range?

Not really.... It would give it more velocity. But with a shorter slower/barrel
Your just gonna have to aim higher.

16.5 is good to at least 500 yards in 308. With a can it should be handy. I have a 16.5" and a can on the way.

what a little gem...i have a savage w/ a 16.5" barrel and just love it. its been almost completely customized and is VERY handy and just plain cool lookiing. now you will prob have to either brake it or stick a can on it because the muzzle jump is much worse than even a 20" barrel...i shot mine for awhile w/o the brake and finally got one and now i want a can for it instead, but w/ the brake it is a laser...

night eagle

I own both, both are great guns after some mods...
