I'm new to shooting and just bought a reloader. I have someone helping me with all my pistol rounds, but I would like a little info on .308. I have bought a Remington 700 Tactical AAC-SD. This is like the regular Tactical but has a 1:10 twist not the normal 1:12. I was wondering if anyone has one of these and has a good target load they would like to share. Bullets, Powder, Primers everything I am not shooting competition so I don't need a high dollar round just something to plink up to about 250 yards.

Re: Remington 700 Tactical AAC-SD

If I were only shooting it to 250 yards, you don't need real expensive bullets/loads. My recommendation would be:

45.0 gr Varget, 168gr SMK or AMAX, Fed 210M primer, and WW or RP brass. This load will stay under an inch in most R700's.

Re: Remington 700 Tactical AAC-SD

I have the exact same rifle and I had very good luck with 168 SMK's, 44gr varget, and winchester large rifle primers. I would start at 43 and go up to 46 but this will give you a good starting point. For what it's worth my first time out with it I shot a 2.5" group with it at 300yrds with Federal Gold Medal Match 175 smk's. Not to shabby. Supposedly the 175's will do better in our guns and I just got some but haven't had time to do a ladder test on them. Hope this helps

Re: Remington 700 Tactical AAC-SD

I have the same rifle and mine likes the 168 Hornady A-Max bullets, loaded with 44 gr. Varget and CCI BR Primers. I can keep them well under an inch with an occasional half inch group.

Re: Remington 700 Tactical AAC-SD

I got my AAC-SD the first week it came, and have been reloading for it since day one. For the longest time, my go to load was 42.1g RL-15, Fed LR Primer, Winchester Case, and 175SMK. This morning oddly enough, i decided i wanted to try some new loads (I was bored and frustrated with my 300WM loading), so I head out to the range for 4 new loads to try and wow did I have some good luck. These are all 100yards, 50-55 degrees, and 5mph wind.

This is the same load as above, but with 42.4 RE-15. This is 10shots and the on bottom Right one i know that was my fault as I pulled it due to be breathing technique.

My next load was the same as above, but with 42.8 RE15, this is 7shots.

I had some 168SMKs and wanted to try some loads with those and i am glad I did.

This is 168SMK, 42.5 RE15, Winchester case, Fed LR Primer, COAL of 2.81". This is 8shots, but the high one, I actually sneezed and pulled the trigger during the sneeze, so i am throwing that one out, so the main group is 7shots.

And lastly, this is going to be my new sub 500yard load. 43.0 RE15 on a 168SMK. This is 5shots, and i did this twice and both came out almost exactly the same.

The only mod I have done to my AAC is a new stock (true free floating one) and a Sightron SIII 6-24x50 scope. I love this rifle. I think if I could have only one, it would be my DDM4, but if I could have 2, it would be my DDM4 and my Rem 700 AAC-SD 308

Good luck with your loading.
