Guys I'm looking at 2 Remington 700 barreled uppers.
Both 308, both 24".
The Euro optic one is I believe 11.5-1 ( non threaded barrel). The other one is 10-1 threaded.
Most of my shooting will be 200-300 yards. I just got back into reloading so I have that option for ammunition.
I'm leaning towards the 10-1. My buddy thinks at the range I will be shooting it probably will not make a difference.

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

Decide on the bullet you want to shoot. The 11.25 - 11.5 twists were developed to be a good balance of velocity and stability for a 175 SMK in order to extend the ranges of military snipers. I like the idea, and given the velocity and powder volume constraints of a .308 case, going heavier may not necessarily be better.

I would like to stay with the 150 smk's if possible. That's what I'm shooting currently on other rifles.

If I go with the Eurooptic BA I will need to thread and crown the barrel $$ . Plus a stock (KRG Bravo).
That's an 11.2-1 setup.

If I purchase a complete 700P I have seen them as low as $750. No need to thread the barrel. I could also sell the H & S stock to recoup $$$ towards a Bravo.
At the end of the day that's a 1-10 rifle.

Tough call for me.

Unless you're shooting 200+ grain bullets, or 110 bullets at over 3000 fps, the difference in the choices you have doesn't matter AT ALL. Twist rate is way the fuck overblown in importance with regards to accuracy.

I'm having my 1-12 Howa 1500 cut down from 24 to 17 inches. Playing with the JBM ballistics stability calculator the absolute worst stability index that I get in 0 deg F and MV = 2450 fps, with a 1 in 12 twist, is 1.354 with the 178 ELD-Xs that I most use. That is plenty stable. My other two bullet choices (178 ELD-M and PPU 175 HPBT) are both over 1.5 under the same conditions. Up the temp to 60 deg and none of them go below 1.5.

If you want to shoot 150s you would probably be best served with an even slower twist than that. 1:12 does a really good job with the 150s (I have never shot them out of a 1:11.25) and barrel length helps to get those scooting along.

A 1-10 will shoot 150s just fine unless you get crazy with speed.
