Hey guys,

I have a Remington 700 Long Range in 300 WM with stock trigger. I went out shooting last Sunday with a few reloads. I was shooting 168 grain Amax and 220 grain ELDx.

The 220 gr ELDx seemed to be the best but all of them had flyers. Those that didn't were within 1 moa, some of them stacked on top of each other. I think I'm throwing the shots out of anticipation for the recoil, and 2 I'm using the stock trigger on my Remy 700. I think alot of my problem is the trigger. Any thought?

I'm looking to replace the trigger with the timney trigger with a low pull weight, somewhere around 1.5lbs, lighten it up alot and make it easier to get consistent shots. More thoughts?

Thanks

I have this rifle and with a Timney trigger an XLR chassis and a APA-FB brake, it still shoots like crap. I put about 40 rounds through it two years ago and decided it was a dog. Going to rebarrel it some day. Seriously thinking about changing it to 6.5PRC for reduced recoil.

I disagree with everyone that says the stock Remington trigger sucks. It is heavy but with no creep and it breaks cleanly. If you want to feel a shitty trigger then pick up a weatherby vanguard. This is a shitty trigger. It scratches and drags before and during the break. Lots of creep.

OP if your rifle was bagged up while you were shooting, a lighter trigger won’t help you. A lighter trigger makes the most difference in less than stable positions.

the bigger problem is like you say your anticipating the recoil.
I agree, and I think my first few shots are pretty good, I'm thinking the fliers happen after my shoulder is nice and sore on the 4th and 5th shots. If you notice the groupings, I'll stack a couple of them, have one that opens it way up within 1 moa, then the 4 and 5th shot open it to 2 and 3 moa. Terrible.

Need alot more practice with her I think. Probably going to get that limb saver. I loaded my handloads to near highest velocity/pressure.

Yeah the break really does feel good on it, but it's thick. So between the 300 winmag recoil and the thickness of the trigger. I need something lighter.

I could understand that. I don't think I'm there yet. Mines got a potential I think and being honest with myself, I think it's me. Fine tune the handloads im betting I can get 1 moa or better. I retorqued my bells & Carlson stock to 70 inch lbs on front, and 65 on back.

Going to get in a better shooting position next time. I was prone for them shots using a monopod and bipod and I just don't think it was doing it for me. Going to get a rear bag next time on a solid flat sitting position from benchrest.
