Ok gents, I have a Remington 700 Police Special that I bought back in 1987 at a gun show in Houston. It was the original Police Special as it is a Varmint tapered barrel, 24", and is Parkerized. I have about 400 rounds down the tube. I would have no problem breaking it up to sell the stock and the barreled action. I know people may want the stock for a M40 Clone Build as I believe this is the same stock that Remington is using now on their M40 Reproduction.

What do you think it is worth to sell?

That is a very nice rifle, I could not imagine breaking it up. Does it not shoot well? But to answer your question I beleve it would sell very easy as a complete rifle or as parts, the stock is very nice for a reproduction m40 and remington actions are as scarce as hens teeth. Good luck. I would like to know how it shoots.

it shoots fine. I would say it is a 3/4 - 1 MOA rifle with manufactured ammunition. I am sure it can do better if I worked up a load for it. I have not shot it in years as I have moved on to other tactical rifles so it just sits there and wants to be played with.

I would say the rifle is worth in the 700-800 range, but there are not many of those out there for sale so its hard to say, and you cannot realy go and replace it easy like a gun still in production.

Here you go. I foolishly painted my stock with the removable bow paint a long time ago and it looks like I need to work on the butt stock some more.

A Remington 700 M40 Commemorative stock sold on Gunbroker or Egay last year for $450, I thought it was a way too much, but someone paid that much for it. Numrich has a satin finished uncheckered varmint barrel short action stock with Monte carlo cheekpiece for $187, thats what I went with, pictured below.

In saying that, its what someone is prepared to pay for it, the rifle itself is a M40 clone, with the 24 inch varmint barrel same as the M40.Just round off the forend and put on a metal buttplate on it and its good to go.

that was exactly what I wanted to do with the rifle but it has moved way down on the project list. I just have too many projects to do with not enough money to get them accomplished. I am sure many people know that problem. My objective was to understand what it is worth and I think I got that figured out by several PM's that people sent me. Thanks for the information.
