I have this 742 carbine, as I understand the bolt is made of harder stuff than receiver and the rails get eaten up. I can see this already starting to happen in this old gun that has not been shot much. Would a recoil buffer and/or brake slow the problem?

Anyone have any ideas on how I could make my own recoil buffer?

What is the least expensive brake I could slap on there?

IMO the only real way to slow the problem would be to hang it on the wall.

If it's the bolt sliding in the receiver that's causing issues, I don't see a brake helping. Recoil buffer, maybe. I would think the best thing you could do would be to keep it lubed with a good grease, but I'm not familiar with that particular rifle.
