Gunsmithing Remington 7600 PA barrel extension

I have a question please . Can the barrel extension / hanger that the bolt head locks into be unscrewed or otherwise taken off the chamber end of the barrel and if so how would you do that ? Or is it a solid part of the barrel ?

It is removable in the sense that they're threaded together, but removing the factory barrel is not easy; you'll probably need to cut a relief at the shoulder to take them apart.
Lumley Arms used to sell aftermarket extensions to re-barrel, but I haven't seen any in a few years.
