My dad grew up hunting deer and varmints with a Rem 788 .22-250. It was his favorite rifle, and when i became old enough, it also became my favorite rifle. Needless to say, many years ago when i was out deer hunting the bolt somehow managed to break and fall out, and I was never was able to find it. I have done constant searches to find a replacement, with no results. Remington apparently completely shut down and got rid of the equipment to fabricate new parts because it was taking away costumers from their more expensive line of rifles. I was just wondering if anybody knows of a place where i can find a new complete bolt assembly, or if there is another bolt that will work just as good.

At one time there was a company making 1 piece bolts but I think they quit. About the only thing you can do is look for used bolts from gunsmiths or maybe numerich (egunparts) they somtimes have them. You may also try posting in the WTB section here and over at accurate shooters. Good luck

Ouch, I BELIEVE that the 788 used the 9 locking lug setup, like the Weatherby setup, 3 rows of 3.
You can also keep your eyes open for a Remington 78 Sportsman, it'll be the same bolt as the 788.

I don't think the 78 is the same as the 788. The Sportsman 78 is a de-contented M700 (birch ADL stock).

The 788 used rear locking lugs and was very accurate but do the the rear lugs it didn't much like hot loads. My wife hunts with one in 243 and it is a shooter.

the 788 had nine rear locking lugs,these are awsome little rifles.keep your eyes open and you can still find them for sale.
