Remington model 700 police vs model 700 LTR

Re: Remington model 700 police vs model 700 LTR

I have 2LTRs in 308. One set up for targets and the other for hunting. Both are 1/2MOA with FGMM 168s.I have killed 7 deer with the LTR using 125NBTs @ 2850. The 190# buck ran 100yds, the rest fell on contact.
The 700P has a very pronounced palm swell and LTR doesn't.
The P has a longer bbl that should be better at 600+.
The LTR is shorter(20")bbl, lighter, no palm swell, and handles well.
You might want to look a the 5R if you want the longer bbl and SS.

Re: Remington model 700 police vs model 700 LTR

I've been looking for a new 5r but can only find used and I would really like new. I won't be shooting past 600 yards as I don't have a range to shoot that far. I do have a range that is 300 yards a 1/4 of a mile from my house.

Re: Remington model 700 police vs model 700 LTR

I used my LTR to shoot my first 2 f class matches. The distances shot were (51/60) 300y, (51/60)500y, (49/60)600y & (51/60) 700Y. I was happy with my scores for the first 2 times out, they can only improve when i get a rear bag and a different bipod. I can get a 155gr Nosler doing 2750fps.

LTR all the way.

Re: Remington model 700 police vs model 700 LTR

I like the 700P for long range shooting from a stationary position, but the LTR makes a better package for moving and shooting like tactical comps or hunting. I have both in .308 and an LTR in .223 that is my favorite plinker.

For the ranges you're looking at, I would recommend the LTR. It will be a handier package and won't give up anything significant in velocity to the longer barrel, especially if you are using factory ammo. The shorter barrel will be slightly stiffer, but muzzle blast and jump will be a little more.

You really can't go wrong with either - I would try both and see which one "fits" you best for natural pointing.

Re: Remington model 700 police vs model 700 LTR

I was leaning towards the LTR because of the compact package. I'm 5'8" 160# fit wise it sounds like that's my combo but accuracy is also a major concern. I used to be a 60 gunner, and also a SAW gunner so not like 2# is gonna get to me if the longer barrel is more accurate. Do you guys have any input on the super sniper scope? Things have been tight the last 2 years, damn 40 hour weeks with no OT.
