I'm looking at two different rifles, both Remingtons. The VS is a 14 year old model, comes with HS stock, 26 in barrel, 1:12 and is probably going to go for $800-$850. The PSP is just the plain jane stock Remmy, 24 in barrel, 1:12 and will probably go for $600-$650. Ultimately my end goal is to finally have a custom rifle built with the action trued, new barrel and new stock. The VS already comes with an HS precision stock which I kind of like and the PSP comes with the standard shitty stock. I had an AAC-SD which had no problems whatsoever but I also read conflicting reviews about the QC of Remington. My question is would the Remington made 14 years ago be better made than the Remington PSP made today? I know a quality smith could fix several issues if there ever were any but then there are some that just have to be taken care of by the factory. If I plan on re-barreling both rifles (whichever one I buy) should I spend less for the SPS or spend more for the VS?

Hey cypriss32, thanks for the info. I forgot to mention that shooting will be done prone so no offhand shooting. Would you say this would still be a determining factor? I'm a lefty so finding stocks is a PITA for me.
