So I just bedded my recoil lug using Kiwi shoe polish as the releasing agent. Now I'm trying to remove the shoe polish but there's still a light film I can't get off the action and barrel. What have you guys used? Thanks.
The shoe polish is oil based, so anything that will dilute oil should work just fine. I'd start with isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) before moving on to acetone (fingernail polish remover).
Make sure to oil it back up before you reassemble, because you'll have a rust blob later if you don't.
But since there's really no harm, if it were me I'd probably just leave it alone and spend the time shooting instead.
