removing Krylon(or similar)

situation:
I have a Surefire 6P Defender that was painted by a prior owner, I want to remove the paint with out damaging the light or finish anymore than is absolutely required, does anyone have a technique that works? last time i tried something similar I ended up with a shiny aluminum casing as the factory finish didnt survive.
any help appreciated

I have used the stuff they sell to remove grafetti from walls before with great success on rifles and scopes before with no damage to the finishes. TJR

acetone +one of those scrubbing sponges (the nylon ones not the gritty ones)

Acetone. Just don't get it on anything plastic or rubber.

Be careful with the "grafetti remover", it is easy to use, just spay and wipe and rinse but it can do damage to the lense.

I like MEK ( Methylethylketone) better then Acetone. It is less volatile so it will stay on your rag or paper towel longer before it evaporates. I found it worked just as well as acetone. I had to remove krylon off of an entire sako TRG rifle. I put it on the plastic also with no harm but I would not let it sit for too long.

Pure Acetone is gone in seconds.

I only used paper towels as far as abrasives go.

Citristrip will do you right. Easy to use, doesn't destroy plastic.

Get stripping gloves if you get this stuff. It works awesome, but it will straight up eat through a pair of latex gloves and mess up your skin. Don't ask why I know this... But it does work good.

Acetone worked great for a gun I just got. I even used a tad on the McMillan stock from the overspray and everything came out great. I used the white towels you can get in bulk from Costco.
