Another month gone by and the scores just keep climbing. Saturday had a bit of rain but Sunday has to have been the best day we've ever had for a match. Beautiful sun filled skies, no rain and no wind. I don't think any shooter had to hold off any target all the way out to 1000 yards.

On Sunday as all the squads started to finish up and started on their last stages rumors were floating around that a new high score was in the making. Chris Michael came out of the bottom half with something a bit over 300 which is incredible, a few others were quite close to 300 so it was going to be interesting on top of the hill to see how it worked out on the long targets.

It all came down to the last stage to see how they finished up. Dave Moore finished up first with his personal high of 440 which made him the new Champ for about 45 seconds, just then Chris Michael walked up from his squad and said he also got a 440 for a tie. Chris Kirkpatrick finished up with four ten pointers and two fifteens at the 650/720 stage which gave him a 465 which bumped it up even higher so we had a new Champ. Just then Craig Wickham walked up from the 900/1000 station and said he just shot a 480. Unbelievable that it was this close and so many great scores. Dusty Gerdau still had to finish up on our squad, he was at 450 with the 720 yard target still to go, he got two near center hits which now left him with a dilemma as to whether to get another 10 point hit and tie the top score or go for the gold with a 20 point hit on the incredibly small white target and be the new King. A bit of razzing and teasing him about what he might do made for some good fun but he made the decision to go for the win which shows a true competitor. The spotters watched the trace head towards the target, the height looked good, coming in directly towards it but slid on by just barely off the right edge for a miss, it was less than an inch but close just wasn't quite good enough.

We had five 400+ scores shot on our squad and it was a pleasure to watch them nail so many small targets and see the scores climb. This was an exceptional weekend with a lot of great scores shot, Mother Nature sure smiled on the Rayner property for the match. It does go to show how good the competitors have gotten and what they can do when not battling the ever changing and challenging winds on the property. Lots of first time 400 scores, can't remember who this includes from other squads but Chris, Dusty, Dale and Jeff on our squad managed to jump into the elite 400 club. There may be others that also set new personal highs, great shooting everyone. Randy Wise continues to up the high pistol score by shooting a 350, think he's after that 400 score which may happen if he continues his trend.

Not sure about the other squads but ours sure chipped in to help spot, keep score and help others with wind and elevation help when needed. Don't forget Tom likes to allow each shooter approximately 2 minutes to fire their three shots so don't dilly dally around when it's your turn. Also don't forget to help spot when you're done shooting, a spotters eyes gets tired and it's also a good time to learn to be a better spotter. Spotters aren't supplied, we all spot to help each other, if you don't help spot then don't expect to be spotted for.

Thanks to Tom and Carolyn for allowing us to shoot on their property and enjoy our hobby. Also many thanks to everyone that helped prepare and serve the food for us at lunch time and the Range Officers that helped run the match. Don't forget to let them all know they are appreciated, small things like that let them know they are appreciated for everything they do. Attendance was down a bit this weekend with only 79 entries, quite a few including myself though it was next weekend, an extra weekend this month might have caused the confusion.

Congratulation Craig for some fantastic shooting, now you carry the target on your back, if you peek over your shoulder I think you'll see a few others trying to chase you down. We all thought a 500 was nearly impossible but with the skill levels and equipment improving it may still happen this season.

OK, now on to the scores:

A few scores are different here than on the website, A few hits on the 600 and 1000 stage were scored as 5 point hits instead of 10 point hits on the largest target, those have been updated here and also on Carolyns Master Score Sheet.

Nice write up Dennis. Congrats to all the guys that broke the 400 barrier for the first time. I have feeling that 480 will stand for a long time. Great shooting Craig!

Great day to shoot , sure makes things go better when you shoot well ! One of the most fun match's I've had in a good while , mostly do to absolute best comradery our squad has , it makes things run so much smoother ! It sure makes my aches and pains feel much better , THANKS guys !!!

Boy oh boy this has got to be one of the most fun matches I have ever seen. If this had been a NASCAR race there would've been tire marks down the sides of everybody's car as they jockeyed for the win in the last couple stations. Congratulations to Craig and hats off to Dusty for playing to win which I'm sure he will be doing in the near future the way he has been shooting with his new stick. Congratulations to everybody that set personal records. Fantastic day, fantastic shoot, fantastic group of guys to shoot with and absolutely outstanding hosts in Tom and Carolyn. Great match, I can't wait for next month.

Great write up Dennis! I had a blast as always. Fun to be around all you guys, and its even better when I actually do decent! After the last few weeks I have had, I almost didn't come this past weekend, but I am glad I did, being around all of you crazy assholes got me out of my slump. Thanks, I appreciate it, and as always look forward to the next match.
