Another new record turnout for Rayners, there were 116 entries this month and that was with a lot of the regulars not being there. This had to be the best weekend in a long time, plenty of sunshine and wind in the 0 to 5 mph range. Usually we get wind that will vary from 5 moa left to 5 or more moa right in between shots so this was like shooting in long range heaven for us.

Congratulations to Chris Michael for his score of 435 which ties the highest score so far. Also want to give his Uncle Hollie a huge congratulations for his score of 425 which is his personal best. I think Tom should give him the "Most Improved" award for shooting a 175 with his 6.5cm on Saturday and then coming back with his 6xc and getting a 425 on Sunday. Conditions were nearly identical both days but when shooting at the really small high point value targets even a subtle switch in the wind will give you a lot of goose eggs even with perfect shots. Don't ya just love this game ?

Lots of great scores shot and a 400 which was very rare last year is only getting you in the top 5 this year. Shooters are really improving and the stations and varying target sizes Tom has put together is very challenging for the top shooters but there are also targets that will let the newer less experienced shooter get hits and still keep it fun. Just watching and listening yesterday to all the shooters it's great to see everyone helping and sharing information, you don't learn anything going to a match where everyone keeps everything a secret thinking sharing will allow the next competitor a few more hits which might let them beat you.

Sharing wind calls, elevation settings, load data, etc then learning why that worked help everyone improve. If you don't wish to share then don't expect to be shared with which includes helping spotting for others during the match, if you don't want to help spot then don't expect to get your hits/misses called after each shot. Offer to help when you can which will only help you improve your skills in becoming a well rounded spotter and shooter.

OK, now on to the good stuff. I want to thank Tom, Carolyn and everyone who helped get the match ready. Lots of work running one of these and getting all the targets welded, hung and painted. Also a big thank you to the RO's and the ladies that prepared the food for us to stuff our face with at the lunch break. It's easy to just drive off after a match but it only takes a few seconds to thank those that make all of this possible.

Saw a lot of new shooters which is great, Tom also allows shooters to use his facilities thru the week and off match weekends for a $10.00 per shooter fee for the day. A call ahead to make sure the range is available would be nice though. Rayner's Range There are usually a few of us down there a few times thru the month shooting or practicing (don't think we've ever called it training though) and if you'd like to join up leave a note on here or call Tom to see who might be going down. Always more fun to shoot with others and we all learn from each other each time we go down, it's just that some of us forget that during the match what we learned. :)

What a fun weekend. Congrats to Tom and Carolyn for a record crowd! Got to see a few guys shoot their personal best scores and that is always exciting. Congrats to Chris for the win and to Craig and Hollie for breaking down the 400 barrier. Really happy for Hollie and damn, I sure wish Hollie was in our squad on Sunday so I would have got to see him do it. Seen him struggle on Saturday, which is very uncharacteristic of him, but he came back and posted an outstanding score on Sunday. Several other guys are knocking on that 400 door and its just a matter of time before they get there. The Dale/Bob 223 showdown on Sunday was a lot of fun to watch - which one is going to get all oiled up to gain an advantage next time? Great job to both of those guys for breaking the 300 barrier and to the new high score by Tim Shuck for a 223. I think some guys are on to something with trying to call the impacts just based on sound alone. Is it "ding" for 12 o'clock hit and "dong" for a 6 o'clock hit? Just a little more training... Thanks to Rayners and crew for handling such a big crowd so well.

20yrs must be the key , I've got 30+ and I just haven't quite got it yet ?

Baby oil is the true key Dale. Slather yourself up, and you will figure it all out.

Thanks again guys for all the help. Truly great people at Rayner's. Had an absolute blast and can't wait for the next one. This being my first shoot I could have asked for better guys helping me figure out everything.

This is a great range with awesome people running it along with great participants. August will make a year for me attending the long range matches and I have learned a lot and still learning more from everyone each month.

This was my third long range match, not only at Rayners but ever. Tom and Carolyn are great, I can't f Thank them enough for range and the work they put into it and the volunteers who help keep us fed. Sitting here feels more like shooting with family than strangers. Everyone I have shot with have been helpful and willing to share with me their hard learned tips and tricks which they could just as easily (and rightfully)keep to themselves but you can tell they just enjoy shooting and sharing the fun. Thank you to everyone!
