Anyone know why scopes can’t be made with reticles that can be toggled on/off (not referring to illuminating it)? Wouldn’t it be useful for when you want a clear field of view or better yet, being able to choose from a variety of reticles in a single scope? I don’t know the mechanics of how these things are made but it seems if you can turn on/off illuminated lines then why not forgo the actual etched lines altogether?

Yes.

It’s called a spotting scope.
