I have a 2 year old golden retriever and I want to train her to go hunting, or send her to be trained. My questions are:
Does anyone know of any reputable training for dogs of my breed (preferably near Nevada).
If I cannot find a good place nearby, I will train her. Does anyone have any tips on how they trained their dogs?
I would love to have her be a good bird dog and possibly take her out for large game. However for the large game, she would just be my companion.
I have never hunted animals before, so this would be a new experience for me.
Also, she is kind of crazy hyper... would that be an issue? I could see her being there and her smell being enough to scare off any game. 262141_10151164456146589_251742275_n.jpg267597_10150235795276589_6873524_n.jpg387444_10151344761711589_531576133_n.jpg543106_10151164454616589_1261182361_n.jpg

Dokkens retriever training book is great.

She's a retriever not a big game dog... Right tool for the right job.

Teaching her to hunt will give her a job and probably help her focus and calm down. Most goldens however Aren't really bred for hunting anymore so your success will really depend on her drive and desire.

I don't necessarily want her to hunt big game, just accompany me and be still when I hunt. I'll look into that manual. Any ideas of a good trainer? I may just have her trained if it's a pain.
I've got her used to gun shots and fetching duck toys, but it is her patience and quietness that I'm really concerned about.
She's a purebred, but her parents never hunted.
I've been considering a game dog for the future (when my GFs bulldog dies).
Any thoughts about Dogos?
