Rifle mounted range finder

When the radiae first came out ... there was a LOT of noise about them "not holding zero" ... and some of that noise was made right here on the Hide. So much noise, that Brownell's "pulled the plug" on the product and was "dumping inventory" on the market at $399 real early in the game. With feedback like that, SiCo moved quickly and dumped the program.
Now, we see people scrambling to buy the Radiae that people don't want.
My rough guess is that day shooters might be dumping them and night shooters might be picking them up.
In the day time, especially with some sun ... the Radius can't range much beyond about 1100 yds reliably and that might not be useful for day shooters ... especially ELR shooters ... most ELR ranges don't even start until 1200 yds !!
But for night shooters, shooting beyond 200yds ... out to 500yds or even beyond .. the radius works just fine. Over the past 3 years, I've had 2 RAPTARs 2 RADIAE and 1 VSO and they all work. The RAPTARs work better, range farther, using the 1550nm laser with consdierably more power than the radius, but the radius does what most night shooters need it to do. For ELR work in the day time, the RAPTARs are a better choice. But if you are going out to 3000yds and beyond in the day time, then even the RAPTARs will struggle, in fact all the rifle mountable range finders we can buy will struggle. For 3000yds and beyond you need tripod mounted Vectronix or equivalent.

So, the reason the Radius was shut down ... is because "WE" said it was a piece of crap when it first came out. Since then "WE" changed our collective minds ... but too late to save the Radius.
So maybe WE could learn from this and be more careful with our hollering next time? :)

In my experience, the Radiae hold zero just fine by the way.

I've had one on one rifle for two months ... it held fine ... I took it off ... and then put it back on ... and it was still dead on ...

On my carbine, I've got one on, it has been on there for a year now and it is still dead on ...

That said, I don't expect any device to be perfect. I check the zeros of my weapons and lasers and range finders etc. all the time.

I'm not sure really why the initial feedback on the radius was so negative .. but it was ... and it came from "US" ... and "WE" killed it. So we need to be more careful next time.

Given SICOs experience, I'm not sure other potential manufacturers are jumping at the chance to get into that market. They don't want to get burned like SICO/Radius unit did.

The zero issue is the mount. It just isn’t very good under heavy recoil.

That could be. I have not tried mine on over 7.62/.308WIN rifles. :)

What I do do is torque down the hex screw on the radius retaining latch to 15 i/p ...
