rifle round help

I'm thinking about having another rifle built but don't know what caliber to go with. Here are some of the rounds I'm interested in but don't know which is better for what I'm doing. I will be using this rifle mostly for paper punching anywhere from 100 to 1000 yards and some hunting.

here is a list of calibers
6.5 creedmoor
6.5x284 Norma
260
280

really hoping someone can tell me which has the best ballistics on the above list.

The 6.5's are all going to be very similar. The 6.5 Creedmore is nice because there's really good factory ammo available from Hornady - and it's fairly affordable.

They are all rockstars in the ballistics world, just have to decide what you want. I'd go 260 or 6.5 Creedmore, they are damn close to one another. If you don't reload then go Creedmore for the factory ammo. If you do then the choice is yours either way.

You could go the long action route, but you really don't need to unless you're shooting at 1k and beyond almost all the time.

6.5 x 284 Norma will have your best ballistics followed by the 280...creedmoor and 260 are very close.

They will all hit targets at a 1000.

which one requires less moa's for 1k. and which is cheaper to reload for.

Do you have an internet connection? Google will tell you all kinds of stuff.

As for reloading, there are too many factors, but I'll say the 6.5 Creedmore will be slightly cheaper because you can buy Hornady brass vs Lapua 260....but you could buy Remington 260 brass....but what if you use more expensive bullets in the 260 and felt like the Creedmore could use the Hornady bullets too! Oh my.

In short, you are truly 6 in one and half dozen of the other for both reloading and ballistics, so go with the Creedmore because it sounds cooler.

Ok. how is the 6.5 creedmoor as far as being a barrel life.

and seriously not trying to be a smart ass, but they are all close and there are variables that will add to or take away from barrel life.

none of these calibers would be condisered overally barrel friendly. The creedmoor and 260 will have a slightly better barrel life all things being equal. But again, you're playing with hairs

If your looking to go to 1000yds you can do that with a 308 or and save on reloading and get the best barrel life in the business...or look at the 7-08 as another great 1000yd round with decent ballistics and barrel life.

I went with the 7-08 for those reasons and the added bonus is the ease of re-sizing .308 cases (I've got a ton of them).
