I'm hoping someone here may have some experience with CZ550 and proper scope ring height. I have a CZ550 Varmint rifle that I will be fitting with new optics soon. Up until now, I have been using a Springfield Gov model 6x40 and will be replacing it with a Vortex PST 6-24x50. What I found to be a problem with the current scope I have is that medium height rings would not work...the bolt would scrape against the scope each time it was opened, so I had to order some Millet high rings to overcome this problem. The CZ 550 action has dovetails milled directly into it and that is how I have my rings mounted.
Now I'm wondering what rings I should use when I mount this Vortex scope. I will need to purchase new rings because my current scope has a 1 inch tube and the Vortex has 30mm. Should I, again, go with high rings...is this going to be my only option? I have seen mention of Weaver and US Optics rails that are available for CZ500. Would I be better off installing rails and then using a lower ring height? I don't have a lot of knowledge on scope mounting, so I'm hoping that one of you guys might be able to give me some direction here. I'm especially interesting in hearing from anyone with direct knowledge of this particular rifle and of the rails available for it.
