I just picked up Razor HD Gen 2 and am looking for advice on ring height.

I'm currently out of town and I'm hoping to get them ordered so they are in my mailbox when I get home on Thursday. Ideally I can mount the scope Friday and get to the range on Saturday.

Rifle is a Savage 10 SA with bull barrel and an EGW 20 MOA scope base.

I plan to use the Vortex Precision Matched Rings in heights of 1.00" 1.10" 1.26" or 1.45". If anybody has experience with this combo I'd appreciate knowing what ring height worked for you.

I recently went through this, on a 56mm scope with tenebraex caps using ARC M10 Low Rings 0.94" or 25mm, you can clear up to a heavy palma contour. If you plan on running heavier barrel down the road just go with the medium 1.1" or 28mm.
Bottom line is you'll want at least 1" or 25mm high regardless of ring choice.

Better go 1.1” to be sure. I had to have that much height with a 20moa base, remington action, and rem varmint contour. Savage bases are roughly the same height as Remington.

I have .97” Vortex PMR’s with a 20moa base and heavy Palma barrel. Still enough room for scope caps or cover.

Well now I'm hoping the 1.1" isn't too tall...I want the gap as tight as possible.

Nobody near me has any PMRs in-stock so I'm stuck ordering based on an educated guess and crossing my fingers.
So I ordered the 1.1" rings and the gap between barrel and scope objective is just a squeak below 3/8" / maybe around 9mm. Anyone have an opinion on this?

If i drop to a 1" ring height I can get that gap down to about 1/4". Is it worth it? Is there any negative to having the scope a little higher? I've always tried to keep it tight as possible, but that was just the way I'd been taught to do it.

I think you need to check your cheek weld and let that tell you what to do next. Look through the scope with your head relaxed on the stock and find the sight picture. If it needs to go up bring/build up the cheek rest or get lower rings.

You have an adjustable cheek riser. That height is fine. Look at the guys that use chassis that have enclosed forends. There scope is much higher over the bore than yours. I think you will find that the higher scope height is more comfortable to get behind.

I do prefer a lower scope mount on a hunting rifle because my stocks have a lower comb height and I don’t have to build up the stock. I also don’t spend as much time behind the rifle as I do my target guns so comforthas no value. My scopes have 44mm and less objectives as well which also lowers the height.
