Going to mount a Leupold M1 40mm on a Remington 700 LA with No. 7 Shilen Barrel. Standard bolt handle.

Can anyone recommend the lowest ring height from both Badger and NF that will work with this set up on a:

1) 20 MOA Badger Rail

2) 20 MOA NF Rail

I'm thinking Mediums, but wanted to confirm since I don't know anyone personally that's running them.

~ haven't made up my mind yet on whether to go with NF or Badger.

O.K. I don't mind sounding stupid--quick question, what is the erector housing on a scope?

Thanks for the reply... </div></div>

It houses the lenses that flip the image in your scope and also you will find this is where elevation changes are made and I believe on FFP scopes the lense with the reticle will be there as well IIRC

Re: Ring Height

Wouldn't I already have to have the base to work out that calculation? In this case, I'm looking to order all (base & rings) at once.

I was hoping I might find someone with a similar set-up that could just throw out what works.

Thanks for the feedback so far.

Re: Ring Height

[rail height + ring height] - [objective bell diameter x 0.5]

With a 40mm objective, you need not worry about ring height; you can use the lowest possible rings and not even come close to the barrel.
