I am in the process of ordering a Vortex PST 6-24x50 FFP to place on my FN SPR a2/a4 that has not arrived yet and I want to pick up the rings when I order it. I read through the sticky but can't do the calculations on ring size without the gun in my possession. Will the Burris Xtreme Tactical Picatinny Rail 30mm Rifle scope Low 1/4in be to low? I also want to get on the Butler Creek covers as well (#6 & #42).

Sorry for the noob question. First post and all.

Thanks

Re: Ring help for a FN SPR a2/a4 - Vortex PST 6-24x50

I have an FN SPR A1 that I am putting the exact same scope on when I get the gun back from being pillar and glass bedded. I went with the American Rifle Company M10 rings (lows .94" measured from rial to center ring). Not to knock Burris or you but for that quality of rifle and scope combo IMO deserves a better set of rings that the Burris XTR's. I have used them and they marred up my scope pretty bad on an AR with a Weaver scope. I would say spend a little extra money and go with seekins, American Rifle Company, or Vortex rings. At least for me it is worth the extra money for the piece of mind it gives me that I know my scope is solid as a rock.

But to your question, I am not 100% sure. All the rings I am use to measure from the rail to center scope. Im not sure how Burris in measuring their rings but I would imagine with the Pic. rail plus the 1/4" rings you should be fine.

Im sure there will be some more knowledgeable people chime in.

Thanks for the quick response Bear!

I will spend some time looking at the other rings you let me know about. I am very new to all of this and appreciate the advice.

I got the calipers out and measured just the bottom portion of the ring on my ARC M10's and it is .35" so the Burris is most likely .10" lower than the ARC's (if that is how Burris is measuring) I'm guessing it will be a tight fit with the BC caps on the scope. But tight it good in my book as long as there is no contact.
