What type of scope? Does it have an adjustable objective? (This makes the objective end larger on outside diameter). Are you running Butler Creeks (covers protecting glass.)or equivalent. These will need more room to operate.

well its actually a .22 with a cheap rail system attached. however the rail system runs the length of the barrel. From receiver to barrel. Would I need high or extra high?

I don't know how high the "high" rings you're speaking of are but as long as the rings are at LEAST 1.20" high from the center of the ring to the top of the rail I think you should be fine. That should allow about a .20" space between the objective bell and the rail keep in mind this is just to clear the obj bell and not for proper cheek weld on the stock.
