RL 17 Anyone using

Re: RL 17 Anyone using

I have been working with 17, 185 Berger's out of a 22 TRG and have not been impressed. Accuracy so so, too much vertical and not great SD's. I have been working @ the top and don't see velocity expected W/O 'for sure' high pressure indicator, ejector marks Lapua brass.

Re: RL 17 Anyone using

I've used it with the 208 amax and 210 SMK, with good results using the amax. I played around a lot with it under 175 Nosler Custom Comp bullets, and was getting consistent 3/4" five shot groups at 100 using an AR with a 20" barrel which is really good for that gun. That load was 48.8 grains in a Winchester case. Quick Load predicts really high pressures in that gun with that load, but I didn't see it at all; I went up to 49 grains with no problems. No pressure signs, and velocity was 2,620ish on average which is about 100 fps higher than I could get safely with Varget or RL15. Judging from the fired cases, I believe I could go way higher in charge weight, but if I were you I would start low and work up. Alliant's load data recommends 48.7 under a 180 grain bullet.
