Test Reloader17, 6.5x47L, 120grbullet, CCI#41primer, 92F, 200yds

Wind was @5 mph from 5 to 7 o'clock. Mirage increasingly heavy.

.0025 neck tension
.0010 jump
3.101 oal hex comparator, sinclair
no sizer button
full length sized
26" 1/8" twist Kreiger
AI/AE action

41.3
.5MOA
3072 fpsmv av
ES 2

41.8
.3MOA
3084 FPSMV AV
ES 17

The 42 grain charge ran 3145fps but opened the group to 1.25moa.
Some of the opening was my fault. I was destracted by approaching a hot load.
Some have experienced this powder to fail at other distances in accuracy. I stopped because I didn't take enough brass to the range but I will shoot at 600yds next.
The bullet is made by Cauterucio, 10 caliber tangent ogive. I tried no other seating depth but might.
Groups were only three shots.
Reloader 15 and Varget shoot as accurate but 125fps slower with similar pressure signs indicated by primer extrusion, recoil and extraction.

Your sweet spot looks to be in between the 41.3 and the 41.8. I would play around in that area a little. The 41.8 looks nice but the fps spread is a little farther off then the 41.3. What type of bullets were you using?

Re: RL17 6.5x47L 1st test close range.

Accuracy for he 500 yard test went nuts; and afternoon velocity was crazy different from morning. Regrettably, I think I'm using no more bullets or barrel on R17. The bullet was Cauteruccio.

Re: RL17 6.5x47L 1st test close range.

I am using RE-15 and standard Federal Small Rifle Primers. I have noticed that this caliber is so sensitive to little changes in temp.

I really though that the 6.5x47 was the new messiah...not so sure anymore.

I have played with H4350, Re15, and 4831sc. Settled on RE15, but mt drops vary and change all day, way mre than anyother caliber I have ever shot. The funny thing is my SD are under 8, and running about 2975 with 37.4 or RE15. Looks perfect on paper, but shit falls apart on me...not sure why.

I have not tried Small Magnum rifle primers, wich is what some of the Benchrest shooters are suggesting with this caliber.

My groups are tight as shit out to about 400, after that, they open way up. I currently shoot the 123 Scenars, and am not at all impressed with the caliber at all. I am going to try out some 142SMK and see if I can punch them out the tube around 2850-2900 and run them until the barrel pukes.

I think I am going to go magnum on the next rifle. I am tired on dainty little calibers. 300 winmag is what I am thinking.

HasGun: I noticed the same thing with my 6.5 x 47L. My sweet spot is about 2935fps for the 123g and 2850fps for the 130g. Problem is that minor temp changes are causing swings in velocity and taking me out of the sweet spot. Frustrating at times.

Re: RL17 6.5x47L 1st test close range.

What kind of temp changes are yall talking about....hot bbl or air temp?

I have been working on load development with 123 scenars and RL 15...

35.5 g puts me at 2850 ish. I have not noticed much change in velocity at different air temps.

A lot of guys talk about running 37 g+ and getting clost to 3000 fps but I get alot of pressure sign at those speeds and loose a little accuracy.

Re: RL17 6.5x47L 1st test close range.

Nobody wants to say it, I will, RE15 is temp sensitive and dirty to boot. I know there is a shit ton of RL15 lovers but I never did care for the RE series of powders in general.

I haven't had any issues at all with my 6.5x47 from 45*F to 98*F

my load shoots bug holes up close and well under 1/2MOA @ 600yds

Haven't had it to a 1000 yet.

37.5 - 38.0 Varget behind a coated 123gr scenar or coated 123 SMK either bullet is in the lands. Yields 2920fps for 37.5 and 2980 for 38.0

Using CCI450 Small Rifle Mag primers

can any tell me if there is a precision mic for setting up how much you want to set back the shoulder? checked RCBS but they dont have a precision mic for this and neither does redding under their instant dial indicators series.

To solve this problem i will take a smalle piece of barrel and run a chamber reamer in it up to the shoulder. I can make them for just about any caliber.

I agree 100% the RL powders are my fire forming gun powders now....

I have the same problem with my 6.5 Creedmoor. A 50deg temp change will change the velocity +or- 40 fps. I have this problem with RL-17 and H4350. I think I have decided to make winter loads and summer loads.
