I’m just getting into hand loading and I’m going to be loading rounds for my 27” AXMC 1:10 300 win mag. I bought 16 pounds of RL 23 because H1000 is unobtainable. I’ve heard of rl 23 working really well in 300 win mag but not a lot of people online are talking about it. I have a bunch of 215 Bergers and 225 ELDs that I want to experiment with. Is anyone running heavy bullets using rl23 with success? Any suggestions? Thanks

When I first started loading this 300 I pushed 212 eldx bullets over 3000fps using 4831sc...way over max...then switched to RL22 for the 230 Atips and slowed it way down to just over 2700...but typically RL23 is faster. Also the 225s have a longer bearing surface than the Atips so may have higher pressure...I hade a pretty long throat and started at 70 grns of Rl22 but just use the manuals out there...tons of apps and pdfs you can download.

230 atip, 225 bthp, 212 eldx...the Atip is no joke

it did for me despite apparently its not possible...a very healthy load of Rl26 in a 26 inch barrel.

If I could push 215 Bergers at 3000 fps I’d be really happy. My factory GMM 215 Bergers averaged 2900 fps out of my 24” barrel. Now that I have a 27” and will be hand loading it seems totally possible.

I don't shoot my .300WM like I shoot 6mm or 5.56. I usually bring it if I'm going to the long range, but I'll shoot a couple of magazines and be done. I'm deep on the H1000. My .300WM is an apocalypse rifle, and I keep way more components than I really ever plan to use.
About a year (?) ago someone posted a ridiculous, on-line, clearance sale on Berger bullets and I bought ten boxes (all they had) of the 230gr Hybird Targets for I think $25 a piece. I already had a few boxes of them. I probably have enough to last me till the dirt nap unless the Boogaloo goes down.

Update: using RL 23, 215 berger hybrids, Winchester magnum primers and Federal Gold Medal Match Brass.

I went out and did a ladder test and went all the way up to 72.4 before I had a lot of pressure signs (heavy bolt lift, primer crater and extractor mark). 71.8 appears to be in the middle of a velocity node. 71.6 and 72 are within 5-10 fps of 71.8. 71.8 had an average velocity of 2950 and a SD of 7. I went back out and shot groups from 71.6-72 grains. 71.8 had the best groups shooting about .5” With 5 shots with a .025 jump. I tried the same load with a .015 jump and my group opened up a little to .7”.
Next I think I’ll make a bunch of 71.8s with different seating depths in .005” increments. Any suggestions?

I switched to Peterson brass from federal and went out and tested 70.8-72.4 grains of RL23. Any suggestions on where to go from here?

I'm using Federal brass, Nosler 210 gr Accubond LR, F215M primers. With 69 grains RL23 I'm getting 2860 fps in a x bolt hells canyon long range which has a 26" barrel, 1-8 twist. The OAL length is 2.50". I'm getting 3/4 moa accuracy at 100 yards. I really like this powder and love the rifle. It is the best factory rifle that I have ever bought as far as quality and accuracy.
