Ya but I want to hear from real shooters. lol.

Re: RND rifles. Opinions please

One question: Why?! If you are going to spend $4k on a nice semi rifle like that, just down the street from these guys is iron ridge.

Its not that these guys aren't any good, its just that you dont know.

If you are going to spend that much on a good rifle, wouldn't you rather have a little trust behind the brand and know something about them BEFORE you put the money down?

Re: RND rifles. Opinions please

oddball,

Iron ridge does not make long action ARs...just like all manufacturers, they have put out some duds lately it seems.

But overall, they make very nice looking recievers/rifles at a price that is not competitive. Nothing wrong with that, just means they are yet another company in an overcrowded field of overpriced firearm parts & components manufacturers.

Have you talked to them about the IRA-X?

EDIT: Its a good point. I was thinking larger frame pattern (AR-10 or similar), which the IRA-X is, accommodating the 308 cartridge. 308 is still, however, a short action cartridge.

According to an AR expert (as distinguished from an AR novice/hobbiest) Glen Zediker, RND rifles are fine guns. Moreover, I've talked with the proprietor by telephone. Based on my long but intermittent experience with guns I am convinced Lloyd, I believe is his name, is a professional and expert gun builder. Those guns are near masterpiece. I'm bad wanting a 7WSM. Once you consider the sum you will end up spending to get a big chassis AR shooting accurately and reliably, and with the bells and whistles of an RND, you could have bought an RND whole gun. RND is respected by the higher, more sophisticated echelons of shooters as an authority on AR type weapons. However, I might have a different view were I to handle and fire one, but having done neither I trust Zediker. You will like this.

In my conversation with him, Lloyd said if I didn't like the gun after buying it he would take it back. Any other gun makers like that?

Re: RND rifles. Opinions please

I've been looking at/researching RND for about 2-3 years now and if I had the coin to do so, I would send it their way in a heart beat.

There is the "Bad News For Bad Guys" .338 LM Semi Auto out there that is in the same price category....BUT just from an aesthetics standpoint, I prefer the RND.
I know of a .338 Norma semi auto that is in production right now that I have been told from the shop, should be in the sub $2K price range.
Also, they are also chambering the 7mm WSM in their AR10 (version) that should be out soon as well.

Re: RND rifles. Opinions please

c_bass_16,

What shop/builder is making long action ARs for sub $2K? That has my name writtten all over it.

Oddball,

Maybe i'm misreading your post, however, the IRA-X is a 308 platform...the 308 winchester fits in a short action as does all calibers with COAL less than 2.80".

A 300WM, 30-06, 280 remington, 270 win et al are all long action calibers. None of these calibers will fit in a 308 AR platform (IRA-X) loaded to SAAMI length.

Yeah, I realized that after I posted it. I should have probably gone back and edited that. i was thinking "larger frame" not "long action" which is, of course, different.

I told them I wouldn't mention it until it's released. I can't wait to spill the beans though. I've been following these guys for a couple years now and they've got some sweet new stuff int he pipeline.

Re: RND rifles. Opinions please

Indeed. I asked about components when I was looking to build my 7mm SAUM AR10. Was told there are zero main components that are similar. Perhaps a pin or spring here or there, didn't ask about those...but the bolt, carrier, extractor and receiver are all different.

Re: RND rifles. Opinions please

I have shot the RND-223 pistol,223,308,338,408,and 50bmg. They were all very accurate and and the machine work is amazing.I currently have a 375 cheytac semi auto that I am waiting on the bipod for and cant wait to break it out for some long range shooting.Lloyd is an amazing builder/designer and there is nothing like his rigs.

Re: RND rifles. Opinions please

After shooting the RND400 (338 LM) for over three years, I am glad and pleased with the investment I made in RND. The machine work is impeccable snd the quality far exceeds any rifle maker out there that I have owned: KAC, LWRC, JP, AA, and Mega Machine to name a few. I am planning to pick up another unit in a few years. The RND rifls makes 1000 yards looks so simple!
