Good Morning Everyone,

I’ve been searching for a light weight AR-10 in 6.5 Creedmoor to use for hunting and target shooting while suppressed. I stumbled across a company called Roam that makes their rifle with two barrel options, a heavily fluted Faxon barrel with Rifle length gas and a Proof CF barrel with the rifle +2 both with an adjustable gas block.

Weight is comparable but the Proof is almost $700 more and I’m wondering if the upcharge is worth it over the Faxon from an accuracy and reliability stand point? I don’t know a lot about AR-10’s as I’m primarily a bolt rifle guy but from what I’ve read I was under the impression that the rifle+2 system is preferred for the 6.5 Creedmoor especially when suppressed.

So that being said I know there are a lot of knowledgeable people here so I was hoping to get some insight on the subject. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

Thank you for the info, I figured with the price difference the Faxon barrels were a compromise to lower the price but would still give good enough accuracy for the average hunter.

Since I require better accuracy than that I’ll just go with my initial plan and get the proof.

My experience with Proof AR barrels is that they shoot damn good. If carbon isn’t a requirement, they have stainless options too. I’ve heard good things about Rainier Ultramatch barrels but zero experience with them.

It’s not how much accurate they are than other high end choices mentioned it’s about weight and frankly sex appeal. Pay to play for sure. It’s my choice but Proof stainless is readily available as CF not as much. Can’t speak to Faxon personally.

For that kind of money I would go with a more reputable company. Seekins is at 2600 and they are well known and respected for delivering good product.

I had a Faxon heavy fluted 6.5 barrel in a build and had to get the feed cone opened up to feed open tip bullets, otherwise they would jam up hard and not even chamber. I ended up selling it and buying an SP10 that is far superior.

There’s a nice one for sale in the PX I believe

I have several proof CF prefits that I use for my hunting rifles and they have all shot very well. Stocky’s has periodic sales so I ended up buying several from them and even managed to burn up a 6.5 PRC in 1100 rounds or so.

The issue is the weight, the seekins is a fantastic rifle but at 10.5 pounds it weighs as much as my brothers Daniel which means it’s 14 pounds with a scope and can. That’s fine for a target rifle but much too heavy for my type of hunting.

The other two companies I know of making lightweight ones are F4 Defense and POF. The POF rifles seem to have issues as of late and the F4 Defense has a 6 month lead time which lead me to Roam.

I would have a hard time spending 2600 on rifle with a faxon barrel. Add the price for a prof barrel and your in the GAP price range.
