J probably has the inside track. FWIW, I tend to agree with him. Once the government is involved and their systems are set up, it seems that it would be very difficult to do something outside of the boundary conditions. Might even be construed as "illegal confiscation" (or whatever the proper legal term would be) with intent to enrich the state. If they burn it, no such claim could legitimately be made.
They already have the system in place to tax the legal owners and taking $80 mil of illegal (un-taxed) ganja off the street will to some degree, up the demand for legal pot. Win-win for the state. This isn't so much about crime as it is cashflow for the state.
