What would cause a normal primer, after a pierced primer?

Here’s the brass in order. Could it be something with the firing pin or spring?

Well that’s unusual. I’m using similar components only .308 Peterson srp, 155gr Palma, 47gr varget, and cci 450
I seat my primers flush. Though that’s about it. But I don’t have that piercing effect on my primers.

Yup. 3rd round pierced, and 4th has cratering.. then pierced, pierced then normal, normal, bad cratering.

Yep, the rpr probably has a large diameter .075 firing pin vs a small diameter .062 pin.
OP- Measure yours and see what it comes out as. If its large bush it or use large rifle primers.

Just measured, it sure does have a .075 pin. I was going to order the hardened pin from anarchy, ill probably do that and install before sending off to get bushed.

Those are some HOT loads with 147gr and H4350. That isn’t helping either.

Only time I've pierced primers is with a hot FTR load running CCI 400's because I ran out of 450's and BR4's. And I use a large pin on a SRP.

The other primers are pretty cratered!

I am. Got a hold of Carlsbad on accurate shooters, sending it out to him tomorrow.

If it’ll shoot 42gr without isssues, I’ll keep them. If not, see ya 147’s!
Carlsbad does a great job, reasonable price and gets it back to you ASAP . He can work with your pin or replace it .

He said I didnt need the hardened pin, that once the bushing job was done, Id be good to go for a LONG time.
Good news . I have had him turn down pins and also had him replace pins . I just told him to use his own judgement when he sees them in person . I still need to have him do a few Rem 700s for good measure .

Using once fired Prime brass, 147gr eldm, and 42.3 gr H4350 caused me to throw away roughly 25 pieces of brass and mark about that many to be thrown away after the next firing. 2725fps in a 26” barrel. That’s half the brass I loaded in the trash pile. That prime brass isn’t as good as the Peterson you are using no doubt.

    I moved down to a 140gr eldm and 41.9 gr H4350 at 2750fps.

I might have to go back to a 140 also. Never had an issue, but got a deal on 400-500, and then just bought more since thats what I had a lot of already.

I wish the 140 hybrids didnt cost so much. They were amazing.

my 223 rem 700 bolt has needed bushed for the last 15 years? Never have I ever had more than just the standard sloppy fp hole crater, every single one, 100% the same appearance.

how does the primer look on a starting charge load? anything beyond that is overpressure.

you would think though when progressively going higher, after you blank one, the rest would blank after

The whole point in large cases with SRP pockets is for people that push their reloads beyond max pressure.
