Interested in opinions on ultimate RRS tripod and head selection. What is the best set up? What are people using? The website shows a confusing number of options.

*You are correct we have a shit ton of products.
-Make sure if you want to see only what is popular for shooting you click on the SOAR tab in the top left of the screen on a IPAD or Computer.

*The TFCT34 04 24L comes with our new Anvil-30 tripod. It is a pretty awesome setup. I imagine it will be our new best seller when it starts shippping early May.

*The TVC-33/34/or 34L have been our most popular with PRS and Mil/LE. You can pair that with the Anvil-30, BH-55 SC, or a leveling base, those are all the most popular options.
-You can also put a gimbal on it if you really want to set your self up for all situations but are not moving around much.

*The TVC-23/24/ and 24L are the most popular for hunting due to smaller platform for mobility and weight. We usually top those with the BH-55 SC, BH-40 LR, or a leveling base, and now the Anvil-30.

*Like your topic says if you want the ultimate and your talking MONDO tripod....You could order one of our TVC-4 series tripods. I have sold around maybe 7 of these in my past 2.5 years here. I wouldn't suggest it if you plan on carrying your gear around with you anywhere. But you can put any of our ballheads on it. All three sizes of our leveling bases if you really want to. It can be setup with all of our gimbals and fluid heads as well. IMO it's just a massive B!!!

Yesterday I ordered a TFCT 24L that i will be using mostly as a hunting set up and some extra mounts for NF spotting scope and Nikon D7200

Mike was a great help over the phone answering all my questions and made sure I got what i needed.

So I’ve been wanting to call with my 5,643 questions. The good news is when I’m ready I will buy more than $5 worth of stuff. Is their a particular person to as for? I have a nice custom 6.5 CM but it’s not really capable of all these cool gizmos. So I’m reasearching everything because when I pull the trigger on everything it will be awesome and compatible.
I need to sort some with Manners. I’m thinking of seeing if they can do MCS DBM gen 2 mini chassis and then an anshuts rail embedded that will accept a shorter ARCA rail and finish with short badger picatinny rail. Anyway I need to sort it all out.

noticed the Anvil is packaged with both the 24L and 34 tripods on the SOAR site

Is there an advantage to the 24L over the 34 other than being a few ounces lighter and higher max height?

The 34 is rated for 50 vs 40# max on the 24, which would translate to more stability?

34 is more compact as well?

assuming this package includes the proper apex for the Anvil?

The 34 is a little more robust then the 24L as in circumference of each leg section. It is shorter overall in the highest as well as most compact settings.
The 24L is almost 10 inches taller and not much longer when collapsed so you get alot more out of the 24L.

It is fairly hard to see the difference in stability with the two honestly. If you start using it unconventionally and putting alot of weight perpendicular to the joints you could see more movement in the 2 series vs the 3 series.

The load rating of our tripods explained: They are set for a fall or smash with the tripod in its most vulnerable position. The most vulnerable position is prone. In the prone position if all that weight were to fall on one connection point at the apex and the leg (the clevis) that area could crack/break/bend/deform/etc. Very easily replaced as well. So when our pods say xx lbs weight rating, take that with a grain of salt. I have had two hefty people with full gear on top of a 3 series and 4 series tripod with no issue (540-600 "ish" lbs). I also have a video of me (230lbs swinging under a TVC-24. ).

I love the RRS tripod legs, definitely a quality product and RRS has great CS! I believe my model is the TVC-33S, which I got on sale here.

For a ball head, I decided to be different and got a Uniqball UBH45X ball head. It's a gimbal ball head that is rated to 88 lbs. The gimbal ball head allows you to pan without inducing any tilt into your reticle (provided you level the legs and larger outer ball head first). It's a pretty cool piece of equipment, Canonshooter had a good writeup on it on the older SHC (Maybe on the scout site). I have no experience with the RRS ball heads/leveling heads, but I would have no problem pulling the trigger on one of those.
