looking at picking up a new bolt for my wife and she likes the american in a 223

So the question is, do i get the short barrel ranch (16.12" ) that can shoot .556 ****OR**** get the predator with longer barrel (22") but limited to 223.

Of course ill put my omega on it and i will shoot it... So when I lob it out to 7,8,900 yards will that extra length be worth it or being able to shoot 556 be better?

.223 will shoot more accurately, generally speaking, than 5.56. There's also a pretty good write up on Reddit on the actual differences between .223 and 5.56 and how a lot of inexpensive imported .223 is actually just loaded to the original 5.56 standard but marked as .223 because of import/export restrictions on military ammunition. You can read it here.

I'd recommend the Predator over the Ranch, just because that extra velocity from the 6" longer barrel will be much appreciated when shooting out past 500 yards.
