I just finished breaking in the factory tube according to Lilja barrel break in procedure and am ready to start working up some loads. Does anyone out there have any experience with this rifle? I have been loading for about 30 years now, so any comment negative or positive would be welcome. Thank You

I would go to the "Reloading Depot" section on this forum, and go to 6.5 Creedmoor. 147's and H4350 is heavily documented on here.

Also, every rifle is different, so I doubt Ruger Hawkeyes are going to act the same as other Ruger Hawkeyes, barring something like Tikka's where the barrels are slow or something.

That all being said, it seems that there are generally a couple nodes with H4350 and the 140 class bullets: approximately 40.5gr, 41.5gr, and around 42.5gr give or take 0.1-0.3gr. Obviously not all those loads are safe in everyones rifle, so work up to them from the bottom like always.

You may also find that your barrel will actually break in, and speed up a tad around 100-200rds. This isn't always the case but is pretty common. My factory savage sped up around 40-50fps at the 140-160rd mark.

My final load for the 147 grain ELDM:

Hornady x1 Fired brass
FL sized and fully prepped
H4350 39.7 grains
Federal 210M
.076" Jump to Jam 2.229" off the O-Give
Fits in the mag, but I have modified my feedramp to allow running these in the mag v's single feeding.
Produced a .448" 5 shot group with 1.92 SD and Spread of 5.
2599 FPS out of a 22" factory Bergara 1-8 twist barrel.

No heavy bolt lift, no flattened primers and no ejector marks. I've only shot it out to 100 yards so far. Will be doing some long range stuff later, but very promising load.

I did some OAL testing with 41.5 grains with the same above but .092" jump to .100" jump. .092" (2.213") was as short as I could go without modifying my feedramp. I had to stop at .094" as I was getting heavy bolt lift and ejector marks. SD's were below 15, groups were under 1/2 MOA and FPS was around 2700. Just too much for my rifle. After backing down to 39.7 and shortening my jump from .070" to .076", I was very impressed. I ran 39.7 grains of H4350 from .070" to .076" in .002" increments with no pressure signs at all. Every SD was below 10 and every 5 shot group was below 3/4 MOA. Found a very wide node there to work with and all were safe.

Good luck.
