Hi I have a Ruger M77 Mk2 in 7mm RM. with a 1:9.5 twist. It is giving me a lot of headaches trying to find a load to group better than 2" @ 100.
I'm considering getting a Krieger 7mm RM barrel with a 1:8 twist giving me a wide variety of bullets to use.
My question is will this Ruger Action be any good to build on.

I sure do like my 30-06, had pacnor put on a 24" #6 sporter on and it shoots very well. Pillar bedded and installed a timney. I did it because, like you, my factory sporter barrel was too finicky.

Hi Spife7980
What powder and bullets did you use to get those nice groups.
My son has a 30.06 in a Remington SPS 700 stainless.
I'd like to try developing a load see if it works as good in my son's 30.06

H4350 with a 150 Sierra gameking.

I’m limited to one revolution on the scope and the light bullets dont start loosing ground to the heavier bullets until beyond the confines of my 14 moa turret. So I took the extra speed and reduced recoil over the longer range ballistics. It’s good enough for a coyote at 540 yards though!

I love the m77 action though, it just feels... like a rifle should. A little loose when unlocked but super solid when it needs to be.

The timney trigger made a world of difference. My dad’s old rear tang has a passable trigger for a deer rifle but my markii was heavier than hell. The timney made it right. Just takes a bit of grinding on the safety column, it’s long so you can shorten it to the particular height for the safety to swing in. I mocked it up, scribed a line where I needed to go, ground it to that point and I have a solid safety and a nice pull. Maybe a half hour with the tools already out and not buried in the back somewhere.

I would not invest money in an M77.
The Ruger lost wax investment casting procedure does not result in good actions.
Their piss poor QA lets some abominations through as well.
