Gunsmithing Ruger M77 trigger question

I have the kmvt77 varmint in 25-06, it has the adjustable trigger. I've always liked the trigger but recently, a problem has developed. In stead of the normal two stage very light pull, it sometimes(1 out of 5 pulls) goes hard, almost like a single stage 4lb trigger. after dry firing it a few times it works normally. anybody know what is causing this? I appreciate any help.

I had one on a 25-06, but had no such problem. Might try blowing it off with some compressed air- could have gunk buildup.

The primary sear is not engaging and the heavy pull is the secondary/safety sear engagement.

Generally there are three causes, wear of the primary sear surfaces, dirty trigger or the adjustment screw has come loose.

I'll have a look, I just took it out of the stock and put it back in, I suspect that may have something to do with it.
