Ruger mags for ptg bottom metal?

I have a remington 700 with ptg single stack bottom metal. I use AI mags but at around $70 a pop gets a little expensive. I've been told some ruger (assuming gun site) detachable box would work in bottom metal. The ruger mags are about $40. Has anyone else heard or tried this that could give more info.
