I wanted to use the search function but every time I try it pops up for a moment then disappears. So here's my question to anyone willing to provide input / suggestions.

As of late my groups have opened up and I'm thinking the factory barrel is done. Stock Gen 3 RPR. Without an exact count I would hazard a guess of no less than 1500 rounds through it. I've hand loaded all with H4350 with a max of 41.0 grains averaging around 2950-3000fps. Typically load 115DTAC's and 105 Nosler RDF's. I'm going to be shopping for a replacement. My highlights are as follows:

    1. Budget: $ 500 +/-
    2. Use: Benchrest matches and ranges (250-1000 yds). Maybe occasional chuck hunting.
    3. Would like to stick close to original twist (1:7.7)
    4. Length: factory was 24" but open to a longer barrel if beneficial.
    5. Material / Finish: Open to suggestions. Thinking stainless heavy barrel. No real need for fluting or fanciful options.
    6. Installation: Would like / prefer to install myself. I think I can do this.
    7. Chamber: Would like to stick with standard spec as my reloading setups seem to be working fine. Don't want anything custom as my experience level isn't quite there yet.
    8. Time frame: Our shooting season is more than half over so would really like something that's not a 4-6 week wait time.

Would appreciate your input with reasoning for your thoughts. Any links or direction to a supplier would also be appreciated. If there's a site vendor on here, by all means. Thanks in advance.

I would get a LRI, Proof, PVA, criterion etc
Lots of RPR prefits these days, too many to narrow a list down on.
That's what I'm starting to see. I see many offering an 8 twist so those guys might be out. There's quite a few and hoping maybe someone has first hand experience.

Patriot Valley Arms can do it, just find out how long will it be?

    Bugholes.com
Can do it also and I think their wait is 4 weeks or so.

I cannot see inside your barrel but you could for roughly 50 dollars on amazon you could get a bore scope to take video to see if you have a smooth bore or if its still threaded I had questions about my rpr barrel thinking it went bad till I asked someone at the range who shot my gun to which he responded I was crazy it shoots fine proving it was me not the rifle that had problems . maybe your gun is maybe your gun is not in need of a new barrel . which ever it is i hope you can quickly find and painlessly get it fixed ..

I have a lesser Amazon borescope and will be investigating the newer one that's been mentioned around here.

I'm not sure what you're referring to with a "threaded" bore but if you're referring to the rifling, it's still there and I don't have a musket bore.

I'm no professional but I do know how to shoot well enough to know my groups have opened up.

When did you last clean the barrel?

105 rdf bullets, new lot? I never could get those to shoot worth a flip, have several that were starting to make a good group and then a random flyer 3/4" out. Tried that lot of 200 in 4 different 6mm barrels, 243, 243ai, 6 creed, and a 6br. Just garbage.

I think I was experiencing the same thing. 4 in a tight group and one flyer. I switched to those simply because I had run put of 115DTAC's.

I was on a routine of quick clean after every match (average about 100 rounds) just because that's what the retired bench rest guys did. I tried one round of no cleaning for 2 matches. Can't say I noticed a difference.

Might be time for a deep cleaning. It's a cheap check to ensure you're not just seeing issues due to the barrel being fouled out.
