Ok, what is the correct (or your) method to index the scope to rifle. I usually use a bubble level that fits into the action and the string method. I have the newer rpr 300 win mag. My bubble level tool will not work on this action and I am not sure what point to reference off from.

If you have a spare pic rail laying around, you can put it on a flat surface (board, surface plate.... whatever) and level the flat surface. Then put your rings/mount on the pic rail. Set the scope in the rings and either A) look through the scope at a plumb bob line, B) level the bottom of the turret housing to the rail, or C) both. Tighten down the rings making sure that you keep everything square, then transfer the rings/mount to the rifle.

The combination of machining, tolerance stacking, and human error usually means that the level turret, level rail, level reticle theory goes out the window quickly.

As long as the reticle is level to the world when you shoot, the rest is not critical.

My preference is a plumb line, a flashlight, and a fixed, rigid level permanently on the tube. That way you know, no matter the errors between the gun and scope, that your reticle and adjustments are level to the world.
