Run those k98s!! 8mm Match is here!

Re: Run those k98s!! 8mm Match is here!

That's interesting! I'll be anxious to see the results folks get from this before I buy any since the PRVI Match .308 ammo (168gr and 175gr) I have used in the past in a variety of rifles was just "so-so" in terms of accuracy.

Re: Run those k98s!! 8mm Match is here!

Yeah well the thing is with them is they have VAST experience with 7.62x39, 5.56x45 and 8mm due to World War 2 and beyond. Their exposure to .308 was very limited so it doesn't surprise me that it's not that great and their development of premium rounds for .308 is not that encouraged. I have more faith in 8mm because for the longest time their long-range rifles surrounded the caliber since the Nazis left all the equipment there after they took em over. Same with 5.56x45. Their .223 match ammo is kickass and I think it's because they used it just as much as 7.62x39 and 8mm. I'll actually hold my breath that this round WILL be a good one. I mean the old m75, an older load, is still pretty damn good so I have faith. I'm seriously considering cashing out the money for another m76 build just to try it.

The last time I shot M75 out of either my sons 8mm Classic or my M48BO that I restocked and scoped it ran about .5 -.7 MOA.

Re: Run those k98s!! 8mm Match is here!

Can you run that heavy of a bullet in the M76? I thought you were supposed to run lighter bullets than that, so as to not risk cracking the frame?

Re: Run those k98s!! 8mm Match is here!

absolutely NO idea where you got that from. The primary load for the m76 was a 196gr m75 round. believe me, 200gr isn't going to make much of a difference. And cracking the frame?!?!?! that thing is a tank. I'd really love to know where you found that old (yet false) saying.

anyways cheers

Re: Run those k98s!! 8mm Match is here!

I just purchased a k98, and I want to run something other than corrosive surplus... looks like this PRVI is some nice ammo. It is hard to justify, as I can get 750 rds of Yugo (corrosive) for $150 or I can get 200 rds of the PRVI for $150. But I believe in the long run, the PRVI will be the better choice.

I think I'd actually ran across that with regards to the PSL's, and the use of heavier 7.62x54R ammo. Glad to know it doesn't hurt the M76's then. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Re: Run those k98s!! 8mm Match is here!

One other question, just out of curiosity: what's the accuracy like on an M76? Are these 1.5MOA guns, 2 MOA, or are people getting 1MOA or so? These look like pretty interesting rifles, at least to me, that is.

Re: Run those k98s!! 8mm Match is here!

I'm curious about this also.

I'm on fence about buying a POS PSL that is or the M76.

Both have plenty of cheap surplus available (i'll prolly just reload) and i can hunt with either.
