<span style="font-weight: bold">S&B 1–8 x 24 PM SHORT DOT</span>

We've been asked to see what we can find out about this new scope from S&B. Well here's what we found out. We're looking at an August delivery time frame.

Unique optical sighting technology to cover any potential environment. The 1-8 x 24’s reticle is located in the first focal plane, meaning it remains in the same proportion to the target across the full magnification range. A Schmidt & Bender FlashDot is located in the second focal plane, providing a precise illuminated red dot that remains constant in size. The FlashDot has eleven different intensity settings, from off to extremely bright. At the brightest settings, it is highly visible in glaring sun and against snow and sand. The lowest settings are designed for use with night vision goggles. When the FlashDot is turned off, the reticle functions
normally. This results in an unprecedented combination of sighting options that will cover any application or environment the shooter could encounter; a standard reticle for use in normal lighting and precise shot placement at longer ranges, and the remarkable speed of the FlashDot, providing instant target acquisition in close-in and high-stress situations.
Perhaps the most versatile riflescope we’ve ever produced, the 1-8 x 24 combines the speed of our FlashDot illuminated red dot with the precision of a traditional reticle.
The 1-8 x 24 PM Short Dot was developed as a Close Quarter Combat Sniper Scope, and it excels in that application as a parallax free, true one-power CQB scope. At the other extreme, a full 8x magnification range allows precision targeting to 800m. The result is a riflescope appropriate for virtually any
application; exceptionally fast and utterly precise. These characteristics also make the 1-8 ideal for three-gun matches which allow the use of only one optic. Locking illumination and
elevation turrets are standard. Bullet drop compensators are
included for 5.56 and 7.62mm cartridges, including the 62 gr.
Green Tip, 75 gr. TAP, and the SR25 with M118LR and M118LR20 loads.

Re: S&B 1–8 x 24 PM SHORT DOT

Nice specs. Would be great for a couple of my builds. Going from CQB efficient to 800+ yards capable would be great.

Going to keep the compact nightforces on there till I have a lot more money though. . .

Re: S&B 1–8 x 24 PM SHORT DOT

This has to be the best innovation in optics in a while. It is going to work well for so many applications. I wonder if NF will come out with something in this category...

Re: S&B 1–8 x 24 PM SHORT DOT

Not yet. Looking like after the new year now. I really am looking forward to getting one on my AR as well.

Good luck</div></div>
+1
I heart windfall. </div></div>

I would not count my chicks till they hatch,Grass sounds greener,But until I have one in hand beside the 1-4 I don't know if I buy into it is better,I don't see how it can have a good CQB with FFP and go from 1to8 power,THE 1-4 IS very small on 1X and 4x is rather large to me if it went to 8x it would be to much,I would assume the 1-8 must be geared toward 8x so CQB may be lacking..

Really, I haven't kept up with the development and just looked on swfa at the reticule and such,I hope its all that, but I know there is give and take with FFP and that's just the way it works,no magic..Unless you count the flashdot as magic ?

I went to the show on Wednesday just to check out new optics.

I spoke to someone at the S&B booth regarding availability on the 1-8, it was not good news.

I was told that they don't even want to say much at this point as to when these will be available for retail. There were a few on display at the show with S&B and at Heckler & Koch mounted on a couple rifles there.

Looking through the scopes I handled I came to the conclusion that I'll be happier with the CQBSS since it is available and has everything I want.

There are complaints about the 1-8 Short Dot having a small exit pupil on 8x, I did witness this myself. At CC or 1x it is very nice, as good as anything else out there.
I thought the CQBSS at 8x was easier to pick up the sight picture than the S&B, of course I did not have them side by side at the time for a real good comparison.

I totally missed out on the Premier booth and their 1-8x, too much stuff too see and not enough time.

IMHO I wouldn't hold out for any great deals from 1-4 owners looking to sell. S&B just raised the price of the 1-4 by $300 to $2.8k. Heck most 1-4 owners will now be able to sell their scopes for more money than what they paid for them. A second hand 1-4 priced at $2.5k or even as high as $2.7k will look like a great deal.

Having said that Leupold's new Mark 6 1-6x20 34mm tubed ffp scope might skew secondhand prices for the 1-4 downwards.
