I've been in the process of putting a rifle together. Just waiting on the stock then the smith will start the work.
Here are my specs: This rifle is going to be chambered in 7mm-08 and will be used for hunting/target shooting.
Defiant Rebel (guardian cut for AI/AW)
Bartlein #3, 1-9" 7mm
R&D DBM
McMillan Game Scout
Jewell trigger

Now for my questions. I must apoligize as I am very ignorant with this topic. In the future I thought it would be fun to have a rifle with the AX stock and a suppressor. It hit me the other night that perhaps instead of doing a whole new build I could use my current build to swap back and forth. First concerning the stock, from what I've found the AX is a drop in fit for the Rem700 so I would imagine my action would work to? Anyone use one of these stocks, what are some pros and cons? Will my barrel contour be a good fit? Next is concerning the suppressor. I know little about them but I'm wondering if they would work for this caliber? I saw where one would work for both the 308 and 223, so that made me wonder if it would work with everything inbetween as long as the barrel was threaded for it? Do most suppressors have the same threading?

I know there are a lot of questions with this. Any help/input would be appreciative. Don't know if my thought is a good one or not but it would certainly save me some money in the long run.

Your barrel will fit the AX channel if that's what you're asking. As far as a suppressor goes, you can use a .30 cal can on any caliber that is that size or smaller if the threads are the same. Most common thread will be 5/8x24, just get all your barrels with that. Also, make sure your barrel contour will support the threads. I would talk to your smith to get his opinion.

Thanks for the info. Whether or not the thread would work on my barrel was a concer. I'll talk to the smith to make sure, just wanted to make sure the suppressor could work first.

Having not seen the ax, or any of the aics chassis in person, you don't think my contour is going to look funny at all with the stock?

I kind of misspoke about the threads, I was also speaking with regards to the shoulder as well. You can use mostly any contour you want but you might have to chop a decent amount off to get the shoulder. For instance, I am building a .260 with a #3 contour but I chopped it to 18" to ensure I have the material there for my can.

It might look funny, the channel is a pretty decent size since that can handle a MTU contour.

Does anyone know what the shoulder needs to measure for a suppressor? I know the Bartlein #3 is a little heavier than other manufacterers #3. Charts say it at 26 inches that the Bartlein #3 muzzle is 0.670. I was wanting to have a barrel length of 22 or 23". If my math is right (very likely it wouldn't be) I would be 0.71-0.70 at the muzzle?

I think you will be fine with that. I went for .750 just to be safe...and well the whole point was to be a short and compact rifle, hence the light contour and length.

But, as I said, I would consult a gunsmith and see what they prefer the minimum to be.
