SAC Bullet Inserts: Modular Headspace Comparators

Hey guys, I need some insights. I bought the sac 338 solid bullet insert, I was trying to get some bullet ogive number. The problem I experienced was the bullet pass right through the sac bullet insert. Did I ordered the wrong part or it works some other way?

Solids are hard to get a good number on, because of the small driving bands. It's easy to not get a good reading because of the low force.

I'm not sure if its the wrong size, or you just slipped it through. With solids (from PVA) I just use OAL, but you could step down a comparator size and use that.

I don’t want to use the OAL due the the bullet tip, I don’t want to dent it. I’m test that bullet insert with Warner tool solid 285gr bullet and Berger 300gr otm, both bullet is slipping through the insert without forcing it. It really puzzle me…

Did you try calling the manufacturer to discuss? That seems like the best approach to start with IMHO. I believe they are backed up on orders from their Memorial Day Sale, not sure about answering the phone/customer service.

I sent SAC an email, waiting for them to respond. I just wanna ask in SH to see anyone have any experience with it. I thought I used it in the wrong way. I’ve been using the hornady version for the last 10 yrs but now the bullet is getting longer and the hornady one won’t able to measure it

SAC customer service got back to me saying the “solid” bullet insert is for the CE Bullet with seal ring/band. It won’t work with other solid bullet without the ring.

They offer me free shipping for the insert work without the bullet seal ring.
