Tonight at 1814 hrs, a US Airforce C17 was practicing for our bi yearly Air show Arctic Thunder. The C17 with 4 crew members departed normal flight crashing North East of Elemendorf airfield. The Airforce has not stated if the crew survived, but eyewitness stated that the crash was so violent that there was no way that anyone survived.

God Bless the Crew and there families, Please say a Prayer for them and there families tonight.

I saw them this evening @ 1700 hrs on my way to work as I drove thru Kenai. They were doing touch and goes and low level, tight radius turns. Got to work and seen the local news.
    Prayers up for the families.

RIP to the USAF pilots and crew

There's a 7000 foot mountain on one side of Elmendorf and it makes a spectacular view for anyone to watch a plane drop down from it, hit the run way and land (Or touch and go).
Done it a few times - you lose your lunch if you've never done it before.

The Alaskan NG has had bad luck with plane crashes. Just about the time I retired (91-91) a plane went into a mountaim outside of Juneau taking out most of the Arny NG Staff, the Assistant (soon to be AG, Chief of Staff, Oper Officer, Chief of Aviation and some of their staff. 11 all total if I remember right.

Ironic Gen Carrol's (soon to be the AG) father was killed the same way, same area in the early 70s, Camp Carrol is named after him.

A loss of a soldier is no less a loss just because its unrelated to combat.

Prayers go out to the families.

It was after Gen Carrol was killed that the Alaska National Guard started down hill. His wife, Bonnire Carroll started the TAPS PRRGRAM to assist grieving spouses of our fallen soldiers.
