This should get people directed on where to look for setting up a Sako Quad Trainer.

Let me know if anything else needs to be added.

Re: Sako Quad Trainer Build Specs and prices

That's some good info! It took me almost 10hrs of searching to get all that on my own.

Also if you get your barrel threaded and capped that's about another $140. Rimfire tech makes a 20moa base that I think doesn't require drilling and tapping the receiver. It's also cheaper.

Maybe another good section to add is optics. I've researching this, looking for some good mil/mil options.

Re: Sako Quad Trainer Build Specs and prices

Ok here is some of the fine scope I have found:

Falcon Menace 4-14x44 FFP mil/mil ($395)
http://www.sightwonders.com/falcon.html

SWFA Super Sniper 3-9x44 FFP mil/mil ($600)

Millett 4-16x50 TRS-1 mil/mil ($300)

I don't know anything about the last one, but I put it up based on price. IF anyone else knows of any good mil/mil scopes, please post them up.

That's what I thought at first. BUT, the amount of money saved on ammo, and at least for me, I can practice long range theory without driving a few hours to a 600+ range. 4 hours of driving is a lot of time, and in my case money.

Re: Sako Quad Trainer Build Specs and prices

Very true, but with ammo costs being what they are, its not too bad, and not to mention they are a hoot to shoot. Of course I cant say much to having an inexpensive trainer I have a 40X HB sporting a USO.

Re: Sako Quad Trainer Build Specs and prices

$.09 per trigger pull for .22 vs $1.25 for .308. I think it will pay for itself quickly in training for the big boy. Money easily spent in my eyes.

ETA: I went to my usual shooting spot today for a quick trip out and shot about 100 rounds at steel out to 150Y and had a blast. Would have been pricey if that was centerfire ammo.

Re: Sako Quad Trainer Build Specs and prices

Damn I really wish I jumped on the chance at one of those CMP 40X's! Beautiful rifle Alabama.

Re: Sako Quad Trainer Build Specs and prices

Thank ya! I stumbled on this one from Don in SC here on the Hide. Actually everything on it to date came from the Hide or a Hide vendor. Oh and the damn thing shoots too:)

Nice group

Does the USO base require drilling and tapping or is it bolt on like the Rimfire Tech base?

Requires drilling and tapping.

Re: Sako Quad Trainer Build Specs and prices

Instead of buying a canted base, tapping the reciever and buying a set of rings etc, an Accuracy International scope mount (unitized rings/mount/canted) will slide right into the 17mm dovetail mount of the receiver and your all set. Easily removed also if needed for barrel change.
