im in the market for a new rifle and am interested in the trg 42. my question is to the trg owners out there is it worth forking out extra for the phosphate finish. i can get a matte finish trg 42 from euro optic for 2350. and the phoshate goes for 2600

Re: sako trg 42

Do you live somewhere extremely wet or prone to rust? If you aren't going to be taking it out into the field and beating it up, I don't really see a need for it.

I believe the only difference you will gain for the extra money is the barrel being phosphated on that model. The matte model will already be phosphated on the action and not the barrel. Unless I am wrong, someone correct me. My TRG 42 blued model, only my barrel was blued, action was phosphated.

You can have it cerakoted to which ever color you want. I would save the cash, then cerakote it.

Re: sako trg 42

I have a 42 with the phosphate finish. I like it. No worries, tough stuff. I DO live in Oregon, and shoot in shall we say not ideal conditions. After a shoot, I just give it a light wipe. Nice to spray it with some lube and wipe it down also. The surface seems to absorb the lube. Very durable.
